When The Result Is Not Your Sun Sign
This is the common outcome and it usually points at the ascendant. That placement governs how somebody presents and how they describe themselves, which is exactly what a self-report quiz captures.
The Moon is the other frequent explanation. Somebody answering from what they need rather than what they aim at will produce their Moon sign more often than their Sun.
Where a result feels more accurate than your actual sun sign, that is worth taking seriously — it usually means another placement is carrying more weight than the Sun is.
Reading The Sign It Gave You
Each result links to the full profile for that sign, which covers temperament, compatibility, the element and modality underneath it, and how the sign behaves under pressure.
That last section is usually the most informative. Signs are easy to tell apart at their best and much easier to recognise at their worst.
If the result does not fit at all, the calculators work from birth data rather than from what somebody says about themselves, and will give you the actual placements.
What It Is Not

It also does not determine anybody's sign. Your sun sign follows from the position of the Sun at your birth and nothing else.

Twelve Categories Is A Lot
Sorting into twelve is considerably harder than sorting into four, and any quiz claiming to do it accurately from a handful of questions is overstating what it can manage.
What this one actually does is identify a cluster — usually the element and modality — and name the sign that sits at the intersection. That is a defensible thing to do and a limited one.
Expect the neighbouring signs of the same element to fit nearly as well. If Taurus fits, Capricorn probably fits too, and the quiz is not equipped to separate them reliably.
Reading It Against Your Chart
The productive comparison is against your Sun, Moon and ascendant together rather than against your sun sign alone.
A quiz result matching your ascendant is the most common outcome and the most explicable, since both are measuring presentation.
